A strong statement is made by leading US technology providers that govenments must roll back their excessive surveillance policies and restore a proper balance in favour of privacy protection and orderly management of personal data. This joint statement by several companies that otherwise appear as fierce competitors in the advance of modern information and communications technology underscores the seriousness of the current state of affairs. It also adds to the momentum for the session on "Addressing Identity Management, Privacy, Security and Trust", which focus on GINI's framework for working out new market-based solutions to these issues, to be held on January 22nd in Davos, at the World Economic Forum 2014.
